OpenMoko has not only managed to produce a phone "free" in terms of software, using Linux and running Otopia, but has also made available the plans of Neo 1973, so that everyone can make their own housing.

These plans are licensed under Creative Commons Sharelike type. The idea of having a phone and change it to freedom is good, but does not guarantee market acceptance, and even more so when you hear the drums of ANDROID sounding pretty close.
